In the summer of 1706 this war frontier mobilised its population intensely, but, in the absence of a ruled army, it required more troops, who arrived mainly from the kingdoms of Granada and Ja & eacute;n, ready to contain the Murcian antemural. The contribution of this union of kingdoms is the aim of this article, which not only describes the considerable numbers of militiamen who were displaced, but also their origins, command and intervention in different war scenarios. These were citizen who left their towns to stop the enemy due to the coercion exercised by the various Bourbon agents and to the links with the sovereign that had been built up during the previous century.
The Carmelite convent of the Virgen de la Cabeza, which in 1572 moved to the place where the Granada City Council is now based, was one of the main centers of religious life in the city during the modern era. In 1595 the then Prior General of the Order, Giovanni Stefano Chizzola, made a canonical visit, the documentation of which is preserved in Rome in the historical archive of the Carmelite Order. The visits were carried out periodically by the superiors of the Order precisely to verify the state of the convents and religious communities scattered throughout the Catholic territories. In this article we present the complete transcription of the documentation relating to the 1595 visit, which offers an image of the life of the Carmelite convent of Granada between the end of the 16th century and the first years of the 17th century, of its religious community, as well as of his heritage and his main devotions. It is preceded by some reflections based on interesting data that have come to light in the course of my research in other Roman archives.
This paper focuses on the study of the peri-urban area of the city of Granada, specifically on the land that formed "el Cercado Alto" of the Monastery of the Carthusian Order (currently the Cartuja University Campus of the University of Granada). Based on a documentary collection preserved in the Historical Archive of the Faculty of Theology, it allows us to observe a slow but progressive process of settlement of Carthusian monks in this area. Within this process, we have differentiated and characterized three successive phases. The text is completed with a summary table of this process.
