Jeanne Bouché Locquin (1880-1971) was a French art historian with interests that included, among other topics, Spanish art. The Fonds Jean Locquin hosted at the French National Archives, contains a section including agendas, correspondence, lecture notes, and various documents belonging to the historian. This study aims to reconstruct her prolonged stay in Spain in 1934, during which she maintained a strong connection with the Casa de Velázquez—the funding of which had been politically supported by her husband—as well as with members of the French cultural and diplomatic elites in Madrid. This serves to illustrate the role and position occupied by women in the emergence of Art History and Hispanism in France. This article examines her fieldwork both in the Spanish capital and during her trips across the Iberian Peninsula that year, revealing her relationships with individuals associated with the Institut Français de Madrid or the Casa de Velázquez, such as Paul Guinard, Maurice Legendre and Henri Terrasse.
