Objectives: The aim of this work was to determine the frequency of burns in adults and children, to describe the clinical and para-clinical aspects of burns and to analyze the results of treatment. Patient and Method: Retrospective and prospective study, January 1, 2014 to December 31, 2018, included all patients with severe burns admitted to the surgery department who had sometimes stayed in intensive care. Results: We collected 42 patients, the average age was 11.09 years with a standard deviation = 16.09 and extremes of 1 and 85 years, the sex ratio was 2.5 at the risk of men. 83.33% of patients came from an urban area. 90.48% were burned at home, thermal burn accounted for 92.86% and hot liquid was involved in 61.54%. 35.71% of patients were burned During the cold period (December). The upper limbs were affected in 76.19%. 20 patients (51.80%) had a burned body surface area greater than 10%. The superficial second degree was observed in 30 patients (71.43%). 26 patients (61.96%) had a standard burn unit less than 50%. 4 patients (9.52%) presented with ocular damage. Electrolyte disorders were observed in 6 patients (14.29%) on admission. The swab was taken from 14 patients (33.33%) and Escherichia coli was isolated from 3 patients (21.42%). All germs were sensitive to Imipenem; Amikacin; Fosfomycin. We adopted the PARK LAND formula for rehydration in 25 cases (59.53%). Within 24 hours all patients had received vascular filling, analgesic, dressing, anti-tetanus serum and 38 patients (90.48%) had undergone excision of the blisters. The Paracetamol+Tramadol combination was the analgesic observed in 24 patients. The combination of amoxicillin + clavulanic acid was used in 22 patients. The average length of hospitalization was 15 days with extremes of 3 to 35 days. The most common complication was local infection. The after-effects were brittleness (4 cases), keloids (3 cases). The death rate was 14.29% (6 patients).
The objective of this study was to determine the epidemiological profile of preterm infants followed at the Kangaroo Unit. Patients and Methods: This was a descriptive cross-sectional study carried out in the Pediatrics Department of Sikasso hospital (Mali), a second-reference hospital from 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019 on a comprehensive sample of all preterm infants followed at the unit during the study period. Results: We collected 94 files out of 194, a frequency of 48.4%. The average age of mothers was 28.5 years and 92, 5% were married, the out-of-school represented 51%. Housewives were the majority with 78.8% and living in urban communities in 70.2%. Primigest accounted for 37.2% of cases; 62.7% of women had completed at least four antenatal consultations. Malaria was found in 38.2% of pathologies during pregnancy. In 73.4% of the cases the newborns were born from a vaginal birth and 54.2% from birth in the born. The sex ratio is 1.5 and average gestational age is 31 SA. The average weight was 1325g. 40% of newborns were successfully followed up to 12 months of corrected age, sight loss was 21.2% and 40.4% were outstanding follow-up, we recorded 7 deaths or 7.4%. From 3 months to 12 months of corrected age all infants had an average weight located within WHO standard standards. Conclusion: The management of premature babies remains a major challenge for the pediatric services of our hospitals.
Introduction: The aim of this study was to analyze the epidemioclinical aspects of iatrogenic urological lesions, to describe the anatomical lesions and to establish a link between surgery and these lesions. Materials and methods: Descriptive and retrospective study carried out in the urology department of Sikasso hospital from January 2016 to December 2018. Results: In total, 26 patients suffering from iatrogenic urological lesions secondary to gyneco-obstetric surgery were recruited, ie 2.86% of our activities and 17.74% of female urogenital lesions. Average age: 31, 88 ± 11, 54 years old; Average age at 1st marriage: 15.00 ± 1.87 (12 - 20). Almost all of our patient was out of school, homemaker, in unpaid jobs and 83.33% from rural Sikasso. Seventeen patients (65, 38%) were 1.55 m shorter and of these 25% had not received antennal care. Labor stagnation (mean duration: 47, 22 ± 20, 48 hours) was the main indication with 90.47% of stillbirths. The main complaint (92, 30%) of our patients was leakage of urine, followed by abdominal-lumbar pain and abdominal distension associated with anuria. Urogenital fistulas (91.66%); urinary tract infection (20.83%) and acute renal failure 11.53% were common complications. The most common causal operation (76.91%) was cesarean section, often performed by general practitioners. The bladder was more frequently (65, 40%) affected by these injuries than the ureter (34, 60%). Regarding the surgical approach, an open transvesical fistulorrhaphy in two planes or a vesicoureteric reimplantation was performed. The result was excellent in 88, 46% of cases and bad in 11 and 53%. Conclusions: Iatrogenic urologic complications of gyneco-obstetric surgery were not uncommon. Early diagnosis and appropriate management could improve its prognosis. The preventive measures are based on the promotion of girls' education and socio-economic life, good antennal care and the continuing training of health care providers in charge of managing obstetric
Appendicular mucocele is a rare appendicular tumor characterized by dilation of the appendicular lumen with linear changes in the mucosa and hypersecretion of mucus. We report a case of appendicular mucocele in a 73-year-old patient. Clinically, there was pain in the right iliac fossa, nausea, sometimes vomiting, and a poorly defined mass palpated in the right iliac fossa. The abdominal ultrasound found an appendicular plastron and the complete blood count showed leukocytosis. The patient underwent an appendectomy and the operative consequences were simple, the pathological examination of the operative specimen concluded that there was a mucinous cystadenoma of the appendix.
The peri-urban area of Bamako contains many chicken breeding production farms. The conditions of these farms can constitute risk factors. The insufficiency of scientific data relating to the environment of those farms and to the various inputs makes it difficult to determine their real impact on the sanitary quality of food. Our study aimed to assess the microbiological quality of the food and water used in 15 farms in the peri-urban area of Bamako. The results showed that all of the analyzed water samples had more or less aflatoxin content with a maximum value of 12.2 ppb observed on the Bamako-Tienfala axis. The presence of mould was also detected in 46.6% of the water samples analyzed with a higher frequency in well water, i.e. 26.66%. Salmonella contamination of water has been observed in samples taken on all axes, with a strong dominance on the Bamako-Kati axis. For poultry foods the samples taken from farms on the Bamako-Kassela and Bamako-Siby axes were positive. Poultry food and water used in chicken breeding production are risk factors identified in the production system.
The Morila Gold mine, a joint venture between AngloGold Ashanti and Randgold Resources, is one of the 10 operating mines in Mali. The mine is located at 180 km southeast of Bamako, Mali, and has been operating since 2001. With the depletion of the orebody, a closure plan was established by the government and shareholders since 2012, and rehabilitation strategies are currently operating. The concentration of major, minor and traces elements were analyzed in 90 water samples (45 water supply boreholes, 13 shallow wells, 20 piezometers of the mine and 12 surface water), 46 stream sediment samples, 10 mine soil samples and 57 plant samples. All the samples were collected from June 2015 to December 2016 in three study areas: Morila mine, an intermittent stream at downstream of the mine and a controlled geochemical background area free of mining activities (located 15 to 20 km upstream of the mine). Chemical water analyses show that arsenic (As: 0.8 to 132 ppb), manganese (Mn: 2.52 to 5200 ppb) and total iron (Fe: 0.462 to 78 ppm) are present at high levels. The ANOVA tests demonstrate significant differences between the three sites for most major ions and trace metals in water, stream sediments and mine soils. The mean concentrations within the mine were significantly higher than those outside mine boundaries. Factor analysis and cluster analysis show a geogenic and pollution factors influencing the soils and the water quality in the study area. Arsenic values were mostly found in groundwater of the village of Sanso (the nearest village to the Morila mine), where 7 of the 10 sources of drinking water boreholes had arsenic contents higher than the standard value of 10 ppb. This arsenic contamination in groundwater and those located in background area could not be linked to mining activities, and attributed to geogenic influences. In stream sediments and soil samples, the values of the analyzed elements were ranged bellow the maximum allowed concentration except for As, Fe, Al and S. Mine soils have high Fe (similar to 10 wt%) and high Al (similar to 3 wt%) concentrations, likely derived from naturally sources. Sulfur contents in soil and stream sediments were high only in the mining environment, and derive from sulfide mineral oxidation. Arsenic contents were elevated in most plant species samples, and concentrations of samples located within the mine were higher than those of the background area. This study indicates that most of the metals and toxic contaminations were from geogenic origin, but mining activities likely also play a substantial role by increasing the level of these contaminants in water, soil and plants within the mining environment.
The stem barks of Guibourtia tessmannii (Caesalpiniaceae) are used in traditional Gabonese medicine as antihypertensive remedies. In the present study, we investigated vasorelaxant properties effect of aqueous extract from G. tessmannii and fuller understanding these mechanisms of action in vitro. The activity of Guibourtia tessmannii was evaluated on isolated aorta rings of rat constricted with KCl (80 mM) and norepinephrine (10-4 M). Cumulative concentrations (1 mg/mL - 100 mg/ml) of G. tessmannii provoked a dose-dependent relaxation of the thoracic aorta precontracted by norepinephrine or KCl (95.69 ± 0.6% and 91.34 ± 4.90%, respectively). The vasorelaxant effect induced by G. tessmannii on the aorta precontracted by KCl was significant decreased in presence of Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (11.30 ± 4.3 %, p<0.05), tétraéthylammonium (52.2 ± 9.20 %, p<0.01). Indomethacin and atropine modify the vasorelaxant effect of plant extract (57.13± 6.9 %, p<0.01 and 58.83± 5.9 %, p<0.01, respectively. These results suggest that the vasorelaxant action of G.tessmannii was mediated via the muscarinic receptors. The direct effect of G.tessmannii to be mediated by alpha-adrenergic receptors and potassium channels.
In recent decades, there has been a rapid shift in livestock breeds used in developing countries, leading to a loss of local genetic resources. The introduction of high-performing livestock breeds might, however, offer opportunities to improve the income of poor livestock keepers. In southern Mali, where cattle play an important role in farmers’ livelihoods, the endemic trypanotolerant N’Dama cattle breed is increasingly being crossbred with the improved Fulani Zebu breed. Thus, the N’Dama cattle face serious threats of genetic erosion, despite their adaptive attributes. This study aims to evaluate and compare the productive and economic performance of endemic N’Dama, Fulani Zebu and their crossbreds in southern Mali in order to assess the comparative advantages of these breed groups for farmers. Data collection methods comprised of interviews with 34, 31, 34 and 61 households keeping N’Dama, crossbreds, Fulani Zebu and mixed herds respectively, and a cow progeny history and body condition scoring (BCS) (n = 770). Data were analyzed using linear mixed models and a non-parametric test. Results on cow individual performances showed a higher body condition for N’Dama compared to Fulani Zebu and crossbred cattle, while cow milk offtake was higher for Fulani Zebu herds. Calving and offtake rates were higher for the Fulani Zebu and crossbred herds. The gross margin/cattle and the benefit-cost ratio were highest in the Fulani Zebu herds, followed by the crossbred herds, whereas the net benefit/cattle, including non-market benefits, such as traction, manure, insurance and home consumption, was similar between the herd categories. The N’Dama cattle remain a valuable breed for subsistence-oriented crop-livestock farmers for whom non-market benefits from cattle play a considerable role. Fulani Zebu and crossbred cattle were the most favorable options for market-oriented local and settled transhumant farmers, given their higher price and increased profitability.
L’incidence des bacilles à Gram-négatifs dans les affections pulmonaires de plus en plus importante, impose une prise de conscience des autorités sanitaires et l'élaboration de mesures efficaces de prévention et de contrôle. L’objectif était de déterminer, les caractéristiques épidémiologiques et thérapeutiques, des infections dues aux bacilles Gram négatifs, isolés des prélèvements pulmonaires des patients consultés. Il s’agit d’une étude prospective transversale, réalisée en milieu hospitalier à Niamey, du 1er octobre 2013 au 30 septembre 2016. La prévalence de l’infection était de 21,55% dans la population d’étude. Elle était communautaire dans 95,74%. La toux représentait 90,22%. Les tuberculeux étaient les plus touchés (27,65%), suivi des tabagiques (23,40%). L’examen bactériologique a permis d’isoler 49 souches dont 28,57% étaient des bacilles entériques (Klebsiella penumoniae, Enterbacter cloacae, Escherichia coli, Serratia odorifera, Yersinia pseudotuberculosis, Klebsiella oxytoca). Dans 71,43% il s’agissait d’autres bacilles (Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Acinetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Haemophilus influenzae). La sensibilité des germes aux antibiotiques courants était faible: la clotrimaxazole de 12/49 souches, l’amoxicilline de 5/16 souches, la ticarcilline de 12/44 souches. Cependant, l’infection touche plusieurs couches socioprofessionnelles, avec des prévalences plus remarquables avec certains facteurs de risques. La nétilmicine a été la molécule d’antibiotique vis-à-vis de laquelle les souches de bactéries ont présenté une plus forte sensibilité. Cattle husbandry plays an important role in the livelihoods of many households in southern Mali where the endemic N’Dama and Fulani Zebu breeds and their crosses are raised by farmers. This study examines food security, its determinants and the coping strategies used among 258 households in southern Mali, with particular emphasis on the contributions of cattle keeping and different breed groups, i.e. N’Dama, Zebu, crossbreds and mixed herds, to food security. The main aim was to investigate whether the replacement of the endemic N’Dama breed threatens or improves household food security. A linear mixed model was used to analyze the effects of household characteristics on food security using the household dietary diversity score (HDDS), food consumption score (FCS), and a modified household food insecurity access scale (mHFIAS) as indicators. Results revealed that cattle ownership and breed group were important determinants of all household food security indicators. Households keeping Zebu and mixed herds had the highest FCS. HDDS and FCS were positively correlated with crop diversity and household wealth, while negatively correlated with cotton cultivation. During the period of food shortage, households raising Zebu were better off and had significantly lower mHFIAS than those keeping N’Dama, crossbreds or mixed herds. In times of food shortage, selling livestock was the main coping strategy for households with a cattle herd, while households without cattle relied mostly on borrowing cash. In conclusion, the ongoing displacement of native N’Dama cattle by Zebu cattle and their crosses is contributing to improved household food security in Mali.
Objective: To determine the frequency of extended-spectrum beta lactamase producing Enterobacteriaceae (ESBL) and other antibioticsresistant bacteria in urinary tract isolates.Study Design: prospective and experimental study.Methodology: Place and duration of study :YalgadoOuedraogo University Hospital Center, Charles De Gaulle Pediatric Hospital Center, Saint Camille Hospital and National Public Health Laboratory, Ouagadougou, from November 2014 to October 2015.AllEnterobacteriaceaestrains isolated from urinary samples of patients were identifiedusing API 20E chemical gallery (BioMerieux, France). All strains were subjected to an array of 14 antibiotics to study their drug susceptibility by using Kirby- Baeurdisk diffusion method. Detection of ESBL was carried out by double disk diffusion technique. Statistical analysis was performed by Microsoft Excel and Anova one-way GrapPad Prism version 5.01. Chi-square (χ2) test was used to determine significance. A p˂ 0.05was considered to be statistically significant.Results: A total of 324 isolates of Enterobacteriaceae were identified during the study period, including211(65%) E. coli, 75 (23%)Klebsiella spp., 18 (6%) Enterobacter spp., 11 (3%)Proteus spp., 5 (2%) Citrobacter spp., Serratia spp. 3 (1%).All the clinical isolates were susceptible to imipenem. Resistance to amikacinwas 14% (45/324); gentamicin 54% (175/324); tobramycin 58% (187/324); nalidixic acid 72% (234/324),ciprofloxacin 63% (204/324) and to cotrimoxazole 83% (269/324).The overall rate of the EBSL producing strains was 35% (114/324). Their susceptibility to antibiotics was (imipenem,amikacin, cefoxitin and fosfomycin) 100% (114/114), 93% (106/114), 74% (84/114) and 84% (96/114) respectively. ESBL positivity within individual organism group was highest inEscherichia coli 64% (73/324) followed byKlebsiellaspp. 28% (32/324), Enterobacterspp. 3% (4/324), Proteus spp. and Citrobacterspp. 2% (2/324).Conclusion: The results showeda high frequency of ESBL producing Enterobacteriaceae, especially Escherichia coli and Klebsiellaspp. The data points to theneed of routine detection and surveillance of ESBL producing bacteria in Burkina Faso.Keywords: Antimicrobial susceptibility, Enterobacteriaceae, Urine, Burkina Faso
Severe acute malnutrition (SAM) has been associated with low polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) status. However, investigations regarding PUFA status and correlates in children with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) from low-income countries are scarce. The aim of this study was to describe whole-blood PUFA levels in children with moderate acute malnutrition (MAM) and to identify correlates of PUFAs.
Purpose of the study: To determine the socio-demographic factors influencing the dynamics of HIV prevalence among pregnant women in Burkina Faso.Material and methods: A total of 66,597 pregnant women from the 13 health regions of Burkina Faso were included in this study conducted between 2006 and 2014. Venous blood samples were collected and analyzed for the detection of HIV antibodies according to WHO / UNAIDS strategy II, using the mixed test Vironostika HIV Uniform II Plus O (Bio-Mérieux) and the test discriminating ImmunoCombII HIV-1 & 2 BiSpot (Orgenics). Samples with discordant results between the two tests, as well as those positive to HIV-2 or HIV-1 + 2, were retested with HIV BLOT 2.2 (MP Diagnostics). Sociodemographic data collected from the participants were correlated with their HIV status to determine key risk factors influencing HIV infection prevalence in Burkina Faso.Results: Sociodemographic data showed that the study population consisted mainly of married women (91.2%) at their first pregnancy (27.1%) with a large majority of them being housewives (86.2%) who did not attend any form of schooling (69.4%). About 88.4% had stayed longer than a year in the health region where they initially participated in the study and 55.8% were between 20 and 29 years of age. Overall HIV prevalence significantly dropped from 2.7 % in 2006 to 1.3% in 2014. However HIV seroprevalence in this study has varied significantly according to socio-demographic characteristics including marital status, parity, occupation, education, age group and the length of stay in the women's health community (p <0.0001). Factors sustaining HIV transmission included the status of being unmarried (OR=1.67 [1.42-1.97]), primigest (OR=1.64 [1.41-1.89]), having other occupations except being student (OR = 1.68 [1.20-2.33]), aged between 20-49 years (OR=3.14 [2.51-3.93]) and the duration of stay less than a year in their locality (OR=5.33 [4.61-10.16]) and these factors were identified as main risk factors associated with HIV prevalence.Conclusion: Burkina Faso remains among the countries with concentrated epidemics despite a significant reduction in the prevalence observed in this study. Many local livestock breeds in developing countries are being replaced by exotic breeds, leading to a loss of genetic resources. In southern Mali, for the past two decades, a trend towards increasing crossbreeding between the trypanotolerant N’Dama cattle and the trypano-susceptible Fulani Zebu cattle has been taking place. A survey with 160 farmers owning a cattle herd was carried out in southern Mali to investigate their production objectives, as well as trait and breed preferences and correlated socio-economic determinants in order to understand farmers’ breeding decisions and to identify comparative advantages of three breed groups (N’Dama, Fulani Zebu and crossbreds) raised in the study area. Data were analyzed using an exploded logit model. The reasons for raising cattle, as well as trait and breed preferences reflected the multiple objectives of the farmers. Draught power and savings were the most important production objectives. Productive traits were ranked highest; farmers reported large body size as the most preferred trait, followed by fertility, draught ability and milk yield. Crossbreds were the favored breed group. Breed preferences were mainly explained by ‘resistance to disease’ for N’Dama cattle and ‘high market price’ for Fulani Zebu and crossbred cattle. Production objectives, trait and breed preferences were mainly influenced by farmer group (local farmers and settled transhumants). Local farmers put comparatively more emphasis on livestock functions linked to crop production such as draught power. They had a higher preference for traction ability as a selection trait and preferred N’Dama over Fulani Zebu cattle. Settled transhumants emphasized milk yield as a selection trait and preferred Fulani Zebu over N’Dama. The results indicate that the trend towards more crossbreeding will continue putting the N’Dama breed under high risk of genetic dilution in southern Mali. The N’Dama cattle remain a valuable breed due to their adaptive traits such as disease and drought tolerance and their good traction ability, fulfilling the diverse objectives of local farmers. Crossbreeding was found to be a promising breeding strategy, which might contribute to the maintenance of the local breed, provided that breeding schemes are thoroughly planned and organized.
Objective: The aim of this study was to identify the multiple ESBL genes in Multidrug-resistant (MDR) Escherichia coli isolated in various biological samples in two hospitals of Niamey.Methodology: A total of 195 multidrug-resistant Escherichia coli were included in the study. These isolates were tested using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) for detection of the presence of bla CTX-M, bla TEM, bla SHV and bla OXA-1 beta-lactamase genes.Results: A total of 27.7% of Escherichia coli isolates were ESBL producing strains. Globaly, the bla TEM gene was the most prevalent (70.3%) followed by bla CTX-M (43.1%), bla OXA-1 (31.8%) and bla SHV (4.1%) genes. The four genes type of ESBL were founded simultaneously only in stool samples. Furthermore, none bla SHV gene was found in other samples type.Conclusion: This study showed the presence of various ESBL genes among clinical MDR Escherichia coli. That is why a rational use of antibiotic and appropriate methods of screening ESBL genes in routine laboratories in Niger is needed to control the ESBL genes dissemination.Keywords: MDR ,Escherichia coli, ESBL, bla genes, PCR, Niamey, Niger. Caracterisation moleculaire des betalactamases a spectre etendu chez les souches de Escherichia coli multi resistantes dans deux hopitaux de Niamey, au NigerObjectifs: Le but de cette étude était d'identifier les multiples gènes de BLSE chez les souches de Escherichia coli multi résistantes isolées de différents types d’échantillons biologiques dans deux hôpitaux de Niamey.Méthodologie : Un total de 195 Escherichia coli multi résistants a été inclus dans l'étude. Ces isolats ont été testés par la réaction de polymérase en chaîne (PCR) pour détecter la présence des gènes bla CTX-M, bla TEM, bla SHV et bla OXA-1.Résultats : Au total, 27,7% des isolats de Escherichia coli multi-résistants étaient des souches productrices de BLSE. Globalement le gène bla TEM (70,3%) était le plus détecté suivi des autres gènes bla CTX-M (43,1%), bla OXA-1 (31,8%) et bla SHV (4,1%). Notons que seul dans les échantillons de selles quatre types de gènes de BLSE ont été trouvés simultanément. Par ailleurs notons qu’aucun gène de type bla SHV n'a été trouvé dans les autres types d'échantillons.Conclusion : Cette étude avait montré la présence de divers gènes de BLSE chez les souches cliniques de Escherichia coli. Objective: To investigate the toxicity of aqueous extract of Guibourtia tessmannii (Harms) J. Leonard (G. tessmannii) and evaluate its safety.Methods: NMRI mice were used to determine the acute toxicity of G. tessmannii. Increasing concentrations of the plant extracts were administered intraperitoneally or by force-feeding. General behavior and death were monitored and recorded daily for 7 days. In order to determine the sub-acute toxicity of the extract, several doses were administered by oral gavage daily for 28 days in adult Wistar rats. Different parameters were assessed including body weight, food and water intake, biochemical parameters and several vital organ weights.Results: LD50 of 328.78 mg/kg was obtained by i.p. route and more than 5000 mg/kg was obtained in acute toxicity by oral route. In sub-acute toxicity, no significant alteration was observed in body weight or vital organs, food and water intake, and biochemical parameters.Conclusions: The results showed that the aqueous extract of G. tessmannii has low toxicity intraperitoneally and no sub-acute toxicity via oral intake.
The trade of local beverages and ice has become popular in many developing countries including Burkina Faso. This study was performed to determine the local beverages safety knowledge of producers and sellers in Ouagadougou. Face-to-face interviews of 233 producers and sellers were conducted. The approach used concerned the process of good hygiene and production. The data were collected following observation checklists and an adapted set of questions: knowledge of risk perception, training, personal hygiene, cleanliness of the selling site, water supply, refreshment condition, packaging materials, food handling practices and foodborne pathogens. Data were analysed by using means, frequencies, standard deviation, 95% confidence interval and t-test. The results of survey showed that women represent 94% of 233 total sellers. Eighty five percent 85.4% did not receive appropriate training about food hygiene and 72.5% of them did not know the reasons of local beverages and ice contamination. Only 35.6% of the sellers used freeze system to store beverages. Poor quality of water and hands implicated to local beverage manufacturing were respectively assigned 8.6% and 73%. Statistical analyses revealed significant difference (P < 0.05) between hygiene training and stationary sellers (P = 0.004), hygiene training and source of water (P = 0.02), hygiene training and cold chain (P = 0.013). In view of the socio economic importance of local beverages and their role in the unexpected arrival of food-borne diseases, local beverages sellers should be regularly trained, retrained in order to prevent outbreaks of food-borne illnesses. Dans le souci de déterminer l’aspect épidémiologique et étiologique des affections pulmonaires d’origines parasitaire et fongique, une étude prospective transversale a été réalisée en milieu hospitalier à Ouagadougou de novembre 2012 en mai 2013, sur 103 patients suspectés avoir la maladie. Les examens parasitologiques, mycologiques et immunologiques ont été effectués selon les indications des prescripteurs, sur des prélèvements du liquide de lavage broncho-alvéolaire, du liquide pleural, des expectorations et du sang. A l’issue de ces examens, 59,2% des patients confirmés porteurs de parasites et/ou de mycètes dans leur appareil pulmonaire avec une prédominance des cultivateurs (26,2%) ont été détectés. Les hommes étaient les plus touchés avec un sex-ratio de 1,9. Parmi les antécédents médicaux, il y a eu une fréquence élevée des sujets à sérologie VIH positive. Trois parasites et 71 souches de champignons ont été isolés dont 4 types de coinfections fongiques. Ces données de bases montrent que les parasites et les champignons provoquent une pathologie pulmonaire non spécifique sur le plan clinique, radiologique et endoscopique. Le contexte épidémiologique et biologique permet d’orienter le diagnostic. La confirmation est apportée par la mise en évidence directe ou par des arguments indirects sérologiques. Ce qui permet d’obtenir une guérison par un traitement adapté au germe en cause.Mots clés : Affection pulmonaire, parasites, champignons, Burkina Faso.
