The main disadvantage of the Savonius wind rotor is the low efficiency in converting the kinetic energy of the wind into useful power. This drawback limits the use and widespread adoption of the turbine. This study aims to investigate the aerodynamic performance of a bio-inspired, dolphin-shaped Savonius wind turbine using CFD simulation. The CFD simulation was conducted for the two-dimensional rotor using the SST k–ω turbulence to evaluate the influence of four distance-ratio values (1.0, 0.9, 0.8, and 0.7) on torque and power coefficients at different values of tip speed ratio. The results demonstrated that the optimal design for the proposed dolphin-shaped Savonius wind turbine corresponds to a distance ratio of 0.7. The best configuration achieves a maximum power coefficient of 0.26 at a tip speed ratio of 0.5, representing a 63
In this work, PbO2-rich (11 to 20 mol %) BaO + CaO + B2O3 + Y2O3 glasses were synthesized via the melt quenching method. The experimental measurements using a NaI(Tl) detector and Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) simulation were employed to evaluate shielding parameters across the energy interval, which varied from 0.356 to 1.332 MeV. Both the experimental and simulated data confirm that the linear attenuation coefficient (LAC) of BBaCaYPb20 decreased from 0.734 +/- 0.086 cm(-1) at 0.356 MeV to 0.250 +/- 0.004 cm(-1) at 1.332 MeV. The measured NaI(Tl) results agreed within +/- 12% of the MCNP data. At 0.662 MeV, the prepared BBaCaYPb glasses outperformed several commercial radiation protection glasses, with LAC values up to 0.418 cm(-1). Furthermore, increasing the PbO2 concentration improved shielding performance by reducing the half-value layer and tenth-value layer values, and raising radiation protection efficiency by up to 18%.
The Phy-X software facilitated the exploration of lead bismuth borate glasses' radiation shielding performance when doped with different Gd2O3 content in the wide 0.015-15 MeV energy range. The effective atomic number (Zeff) and LAC were progressively increased with greater BaO, PbO2, and Gd2O3 content. The glasses' Zeff values had significant dependence on the radiation energy, since the Zeff changed rapidly with increased energy and in the low energy range this change was very notable. The high density sample (coded as Gd3) had the lowest half-value layer (HVL), indicating this glass sample as possessing the maximum shielding effect. The prepared glasses' HVL values were compared with additional glasses at 0.5 MeV, whereby the values of all the glass samples in this study were lower than the compared CaF2-BaO-P2O5 and BaO-Li2O-B2O3 glasses.
Growth hormone deficiency (GHD) requires long-term hormone replacement therapy, most commonly through daily injections of recombinant human growth hormone (rhGH). Although effective, this daily regimen may lead to poor adherence, particularly in children. Somapacitan, a long-acting growth hormone analog administered once weekly, has emerged as a potential alternative. This systematic review and meta-analysis compares the efficacy, safety, and biochemical outcomes of once-weekly somapacitan with daily Norditropin in patients with GHD. Following PRISMA guidelines (PROSPERO: CRD420251118208), PubMed and CENTRAL were systematically searched up to August 2025. Randomized controlled trials comparing somapacitan with Norditropin in patients with GHD were included. Data were pooled using a random-effects meta-analysis in Review Manager 5.4, and risk of bias was assessed using the Cochrane RoB 2 tool. Ten randomized controlled trials involving 920 participants were included. Somapacitan and Norditropin demonstrated comparable outcomes in height velocity (MD = 0.12; 95
Background: Adnexa is defined as the accessory structures that are involved in protecting and supporting the function of the eye. Understanding ophthalmic procedure trends aids considerably in developing healthcare plans. This research seeks to study trends in eye and adnexa procedures in Australia from 2000 to 2023. Method: This study was a descriptive timetrend study. We collected procedure data from the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare (AIHW), National Hospital Morbidity Database (NHMD) and population data from the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) dataset between 2000 and 2023. Eye and adnexa procedures were identified using the codes (160-256). We analyzed procedure data based on gender, age and same-day status. Results: Over the study period, the total number of eye and adnexa procedures of recorded cases in Australia was 10,567,738. Procedure's rate increased from 1,041.39 (95% CI 1036.86-1,045.92) to 3,474.91 (95% CI 3,467.953,481.86) per 100,000 population-years. The annual number and rate of eye and adnexa procedures increased by 3.61 times and 2.34 times, respectively. The bulk of cases were between females and the older population. Regarding the same-day status, the same-day procedures accounted for most cases. Besides, procedures on "anterior segment-lens" accounted for most cases (65.6%) of eye and adnexa procedures. Conclusion: There has been a significant increase in eye and adnexa procedures in Australia, partly due to an aging population. Anterior segment-lens procedures accounted for the majority of eye and adnexa procedures. Targeted prevention strategies for age-related lens diseases are needed. Implementing age- and gender-specific strategies, based on the type of procedure prevalent in each group, could help reduce the number of procedures required by the population, thereby reducing the burden on the population and healthcare services.
