The history of the deaf movement in Santa Maria was marked by the creation of the Santa Maria Deaf Association - ASSM, in 1985. This study sought to answer the following question: how did Volleyball and Mini-Volleyball for the Deaf develop in the Santa Maria region considering the trajectory of ASSM? To understand this historical process, the following sources were used: bibliographic references from deaf authors to systematize the state of the art; municipal laws of Santa Maria (RS) related to the ASSM; reports in print and online newspapers and on social media related to the ASSM; ASSM projects approved under Proesp in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Subsequently, two ASSM leaders were interviewed. The results reinforce the importance of Brazilian Sign Language as a cultural artifact for the deaf community and sport as a place for cultural exchange and a space for the empowerment deaf people. The organization of Volleyball and Mini-Volleyball for the Deaf, from 2018 to 2024, proved to be a driving force for the ASSM, bringing benefits reflected in its organizational evolution. This study opens avenues for future research on the topic, primarily to further explore the methodological aspects of teaching volleyball and mini-volleyball to the Deaf.
This article presents an ethnography carried out at the Macedao Stadium, in Ca & ccedil;apava do Sul (RS, Brazil), tracing, from November 2020 to November 2025, the lines of life that traverse the continuous process of its revitalization. The research turned to the gestures, affects, memories, and narratives that continually make and unmake the stadium, moving to the rhythm of city life. The methodological path, woven through walks, participant observation, and situated conversations, allowed us to follow the ways in which the space is continually reconfigured in everyday life, revealing a landscape in becoming where practices, tensions, and expectations grow intertwined. From this attentive engagement, the study proposes to understand revitalization not as an opposition between tradition and modernity or conservation and innovation, but as a relational movement through which the stadium continuously reinvents itself within the ordinary webs of life that constitute it.
To analyze the inclusion of the Brazilian Unified Health System (SUS) in courses offered by Physical Education Graduate Programs (PEPP), a descriptive documentary research was conducted based on course descriptions identified on websites. Of the 40 PEPPs identified, 28 contained the theme of health in their areas of concentration or lines of research (70%). Of the 897 disciplines analyzed, eight address the SUS (0.89%), offered by seven PEPPs. The courses addressed topics related to the "history, principles and guidelines of the SUS" (n = 5), "knowledge related to physical activity" (n = 4) and "role of PE / the PE professional in the SUS" (n = 4). Although the connection between Public Health and PE is not so recent, the inclusion ofdisciplines addressing the SUS in PEPP is still incipient. It is recommended that mechanisms be created to ensure that health education in graduate programs in Physical Education is guided by the SUS principles and guidelines.
This study investigated the professionalization trajectories of gym managers. It sought to understand how dispositions toward gym management were incorporated and enacted by four Physical Education professionals. Drawing on dispositional sociology as its theoretical and methodological framework, four interviews were conducted with each professional, which served as a basis for the construction of sociological portraits. Based on syntheses of these portraits, the analyses described and discussed led to the conclusion that the professionalization trajectories show convergences and divergences, when considering three dispositions incorporated in different contexts of socialization (family, education, physical practices and management).
The aim of the study was to identify student teachers' perceptions of the issues faced by teachers in everyday school life, based on their experiences in the Supervised Curricular Internship (SCI) of the Physical Education teaching degree program at the Federal University of Northern Tocantins (UFNT), as thematized by the interns themselves. This is a qualitative documentary study, in which the content of 71 internship reports from the 2018 to 2021 school years was analyzed. The results pointed to several problems faced by Physical Education student teachers during the SCI, especially the lack of infrastructure and adequate materials, difficulties in interacting with the school community, challenges related to student profiles and behaviors, and the disconnect between academic training and teaching practice in schools. The study concludes that the SCI should serve as a space in which pre-service teachers can develop a reflective and critical stance, capable of adapting and recreating pedagogical practices in keeping with each school context.
The aim of this essay is to reflect on the relevance of Inezil Penna Marinho's ideas concerning the relationship between physical education, sports, and hedonism in contemporary society. The research that led to this essay is theoretical in nature, and the methodology employed is essentially bibliographic. As a result, at least two meanings of hedonism were identified, one of which, in Marinho's (1984) text, is linked to the philosophical tradition that dates back to Epicurus. It is in this sense of hedonism-along with its developments in modern psychology and pedagogy-that the concept and function of physical education and sports are philosophically grounded. Although he could not have foreseen phenomena related to the development of the internet and the digital world, Marinho (1984) demonstrated a sensitivity capable of grasping important connections between philosophy, physical education, and sports in contemporary times, thus allowing some of his ideas remain relevant in the 21st century.
This research sought to examine the configuration of funding and public expenditure on sports policies aimed at broadening participation in sports in Portugal, especially those that provide opportunities for low-income populations. The data linked to the Programa Nacional de Desporto para Todos (National Sport for All Program)-PNDpT-were our empirical basis for this study, which showed that the Portuguese State plays a limited role in the Portuguese Institute of Sport and Youth (IPDJ) budget, with sports betting and online gambling being the main sources of funding for this Institute. Regarding the PNDpT, we point out that the IPDJ's average budget share in 2022 was limited to 13% of total costs, which may hinder the expansion of this program. By way of reflection, we suggest that resources could be better allocated, since while the PNDpT accounts for only 2.5% of the IPDJ budget, transfers to sports federations account for 75%.
Currently, there has been an intensification of the migration of Brazilian female football players to Europe. This study aimed to critically examine the migration and career opportunities of Italo-Brazilian football players who moved to Italian futsal. The empirical corpus of the study consists of five "in-depth interviews" with footballers who played in the Italian women's futsal Serie A, as well as the use of documentary and digital sources. The research identified a substantial number of Brazilian players across the last seven editions of the competition (27 in 2016; 37 in 2017; 43 in 2018; 37 in 2019; 31 in 2020; 40 in 2021; and 41 in 2022). We conclude that, although Italian women's futsal represents a valued opportunity, various adversities persist that hinder these migrant athletes' ability to build a solid career.
Considering the complex parliamentary dynamics and the relevance of the Bolsa Atleta Program, this study aims to analyze the speeches of Brazilian parliamentarians in the National Congress that mention the Bolsa Atleta public policy. Forthis purpose, 404 pronouncements delivered by Brazilian parliamentarians in the plenary of their respective houses (Chamber of Deputies or Senate) were analyzed. Subsequently, the data were entered into the NVivo software for the organization, coding, and analysis of the information from the speeches, based on the detailing of the summaries. Regarding the discursive content, the thematic categorization showed a predominance of Positive Statements, reflecting a largely favorable position toward the program. These mentions frequently included tributes to athletes and the recognition of the importance of titles won for the country's sports visibility. Although in smaller proportion, Criticisms and Suggestions for Changes were also identified, pointing to concerns such as the sluggishness in the processing of projects and the need to update the program.
In recent years, special attention has been given to the analysis of social networks in education, as they acquire great relevance in creating innovative opportunities that are meaningful and motivating for students. The aim of this article is to analyze the educational and emotional potential of Twitter in a course within the Teacher Training Master's Degree in, inspired by the television show MasterChef. The proposal adopted a transmedia approach, that is, students took on an active role in creating materials and disseminating them through different media. To assess the impact, all tweets published with the project hashtag (#MasterchEFugr) were analyzed. The methodology used was qualitative, with data analyzed using Nvivo software. Among the results obtained, it is worth highlighting how the tweets referred to the emotional impact of the proposal, sharing the excitement, the sense of responsibility, or the pressure it entailed. Likewise, through Twitter, they reflected on what they had learned and disseminated the materials they were producing, making them accessible to numerous peers and in-service teachers.
The objective of the article was to identify the main sources of revenue for clubs of railway origin that competed in the 2022 Brazilian Championship in Series A, B, C, and D. To this end, a documentary analysis was conducted based on financial reports. The results highlight managerial weaknesses regarding compliance in some clubs. 14 different sources of revenue were identified, with emphasis on the commercialization of broadcasting rights, which was among the main revenue sources for all the clubs analyzed. Oper & aacute;rio Ferrovi & aacute;rio Esporte Clube stood out in exploring sponsorships and fan membership programs, Botafogo Futebol Clube and Paran & aacute; Clube with revenues on match days, Ituano Futebol Clube and Associa & ccedil;& atilde;o Ferrovi & aacute;ria de Esportes in the transfer of players. It is suggested that the revenue sources exploited may vary according to the period in which clubs have scheduled matches during the season.
This manuscript examines the use of corpography as a pedagogical tool in the university classroom. It focuses on visual narratives in which students create and graphically represent their moving bodies through expressive dynamics and body awareness, within the context of initial training in the undergraduate programme in Physical Activity and Sport Sciences. This biographical-narrative study explores the meanings that emerge from the analysis of 150 visual narratives produced by students. The analysis addresses the emotional, motor, and biographical meanings constructed and narrated through their visual compositions. The findings indicate that corpography constitutes a relevant pedagogical tool for fostering processes of self-discovery, creativity, and the deconstruction of hegemonic body models. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of conscious body work in learning processes and underscores the role of affective bonds in enhancing interpersonal relationships both inside and outside the university classroom.
This essay proposes a reflection on Parkour as a bodily practice of resistance and a counter-hegemonic pedagogical metaphor in School Physical Education (SPE). In dialogue with the Brazilian National Common Curricular Base (BNCC), we discuss the political and pedagogical meanings that emerge from thematizing Parkour as an urban practice of overcoming obstacles. We argue that Parkour, more than a bodily technique, functions as an educational provocation, challenging normative curricular logics, bodily hierarchies, and traditional conceptions of teaching. By reclaiming the potential of the moving body as both language and critique, we contend that practices such as Parkour can enchant School Physical Education by expanding horizons of invention, calculated risk, and teacher-student autonomy. In times of exhaustion of traditional models, reflecting on Parkour as a political-pedagogical gesture also means opening pathways toward a more creative, inclusive, and contemporary school.
The processes of career transition and aging can represent turbulent moments in athletes' lives. Therefore, this study aims to identify, systematize, and analyze the experiences reported by retired Olympic athletes in track and field. The research methodology used was qualitative-quantitative in nature, involving a preliminary questionnaire and semi-structured interviews. The participants were nine middle-distance runners who represented Brazil in the Olympics from 1984 to 2016, with an average age of 56.7 (+/- 8.56) years. After transcribing the recorded interviews, timeline maps were developed, and common points in the athletes' career trajectories and transitions were identified. It was observed that all athletes chose a dual-career path, balancing their studies with high-performance sports. This seems to have eased their adaptation to a new professional career. Regarding quality of life, 88.88% of the participants continue to engage in physical exercise, and none reported physical limitations resulting from their athletic careers.
The objective is to analyze the management of the Segundo Tempo Program (PST), based on its objectives, target audience, quantitative goals, workforce, civil society participation, and social control. This is a descriptive qualitative study with a temporal scope spanning from 2003 and 2024. Based on document analysis, the following categories were established: objectives; target audience; quantitative goals; workforce; participation and social control. The results showed that, although the PST proposed the democratization of educational sports, it prioritized children, adolescents and young people in social vulnerability, based on a functional-utilitarian conception of sports. Over the years, the quantitative goals of the PST fluctuated, while the number of professionals and the role of the federal government were reduced, increasingly concentrating responsibilities within partner organizations. Social control within the PST was bureaucratic, with no participation from civil society.
The study analyzed the perceptions of children and their guardians regarding their participation in the Social Holiday Camp "If This Street Were Mine", based exclusively on traditional games. Using a qualitative and descriptive approach, the research involved 46 children aged 4 to 12 and 30 guardians who responded to questionnaires at the end of the camp. Content analysis of children's responses revealed five categories: joy and fun; expectation and enchantment; appreciation for the educators; learning and discoveries; and fears and concerns. Guardians emphasized play as a practice that promotes motor, cognitive, emotional, and social development, recognizing the camp as a space for growth and belonging. The data highlight the potential of play as a cultural practice that fosters bonding, holistic development, and social justice-especially in vulnerable contexts. The study concludes that initiatives like this can expand access to leisure, rescue community values, and strengthen the civic formation of children and their families.
Participaram do estudo sete professores.
